Renee Mathies is #MadeForKnoxville.
Renee has always reveled in the art of making. She has a drive to dive into processes and techniques unfamiliar to her in order to open up new pathways of creativity. But Renee is also passionate about another aspect of art — helping others make it.
Renee created Out of the Fire Designs to quell her neverending need to create, but also to help others find their excitement and love of the processes, too. With Out of the Fire, anyone can learn the lampworking technique and get “torch time” with a terrific teacher.
“I love teaching & sharing my art. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind art! That’s what makes it special!”
In Their Own Words..
I’ve been a maker all my life. From drawing, painting, sewing, decorating, etc. When I look at things I always say “I can make that!” Then I learn how & do it. When I was a vendor at a craft show & selling hand strung, beaded jewelry. I saw a woman with a booth of glass beads. She had a video of her process. I was immediately intrigued! Of course I thought “I can do that!” And I did! I took a one day class & learned to make glass beads. That was 13 years ago. I now have a private studio that I teach beginners & intermediate classes in lampworking (glass beadmaking). I teach how to melt glass with a torch to make glass beads & all the amazing designs you can make with glass. Their excitement makes me happy. My studio is also open to artists in other media that want to have some torch time to make glass beads for their designs. I love teaching & sharing my art. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind art! That’s what makes it special!
