Ericka Carreon-Mejia is #MadeForKnoxville.

Ericka Carreon-Mejia lives at the intersection of innovation and artistic creation. She and her husband, Gabriel, officially formed their business, American Construction & Design Solutions, LLC in March 2022. Together, they have built a multi-talented team of artists, designers, and sculptors. Utilizing their diverse mix of artistic gifts and years of experience, they offer personalized services in the creation of new gardens and construction projects. 

After the Covid-19 pandemic and an accident, Ericka and her husband shifted their lives to live more passionately and focus on bettering the community through art, design, landscaping, and construction. They formed a more inclusive business to support and unite with other talented artists who had not been given an opportunity. Together with Ericka’s father, Manuel Carreon, Uncle Martin, and Mr. Leonardo, they build beautiful spaces for families and communities. Their dream is to help improve the city of Knoxville with art and sculptures in parks, schools, public places and vandalized areas.

In Their Own Words…

I’m Ericka, and I was born in Texas to Mexican parents. I have been a leader since I was little. As a child, I loved to socialize, do business, offer services, help and improve, create and beautify spaces. Over time, I have honed my skill to motivate people and draw out their maximum potential. 

I grew up in a humble house where my parents, grandparents, and uncles had businesses, even when they were small. Throughout my life, I saw how my father passionately drew, created, and invented things together with my uncles. 

At 18, I was kidnapped, mistreated and raped. I was rescued and taken to a shelter–my second chance at life–but I had a daughter because of what happened to me. While I was studying and working, I left her in the care of a family. From the age of 3 – 6 years old, she was sexually abused by the person in this home. When I found out what was happening, we demanded an investigation, in which we were able to save many other little ones who were also being abused. This horrific trauma–paired with the genetics of the bad man who abused me and almost killed me–caused my daughter to develop a mental illness that has worsened with her own abuse. The only thing she focuses on is drawing. She is another reason why we created our business, in addition to our love for motivating and starting new initiatives. We want to leave a legacy for our children to be people of work and benefit for this country.

My husband and I had surgeries and accidents, but if God is giving us opportunities to live despite all of the tragic things that have happened to me, we want to do good and contribute to improving and bringing joy in this world, impacting other people.

Soy Ericka, nací en Texas de padres Mexicanos. Desde niña me encanta socializar, los negocios, ofrecer servicios, ayudar y mejorar, crear y embellecer espacios. Soy líder desde pequeña, puedo motivar y sacar de las personas su máximo potencial. Es por eso que con la ayuda de mi esposo, Gabriel Mejia, creamos este negocio donde agregamos personas a nuestro equipo con varios talentos en el arte y esculturas. Estos son mi padre, Manuel Carreon, mi tío Martin y el Sr. Leonardo. Todos contamos con distintos dones desde el arte, dibujo, diseño, esculturas, creación de nuevos jardines con innovaciones y arte incluidas para ofrecer servicios personalizados a todas aquellas personas que nos den una oportunidad. Deseamos trabajar y crecer en lo que nos apasiona: arte, diseños, paisajismo, y construcción. Todos contamos con muchos años de experiencia en todo esto, así que aunque este negocio es nuevo en Knoxville, hay bastante experiencia. Después de la pandemia del covid y un accidente, mi esposo y yo decidimos hacer un giro a nuestras vidas y formar un negocio más trascendental donde pudiéramos apoyar y unirnos con otros talentosos artistas que no se les ha dado una oportunidad, pero que juntos lograríamos cosas espectaculares…. Nuestro sueño es apoyar a mejorar la ciudad de Knoxville con arte y esculturas en parques, escuelas, lugares públicos y áreas vandalizadas. Dejar un legado para nuestros hijos para que sean personas de trabajo y beneficio para este país.

Crecí en una humilde casa donde mis padres, abuelos y tíos tenían negocios ( siempre emprendiendo), aunque fueran pequeños. Desde entonces veía como mi padre con pasión dibujaba y creaba o inventaba cosas junto con mis tíos.

A los 18 años, fui secuestrada, maltratada y violada. Fui rescatada y llevada a un refugio–ésta fue mi segunda oportunidad de vida–pero tuve una hija debido a eso que me pasó. Mientras yo estudiaba y trabajaba, la dejaba al cuidado de una familia. A sus 3 añitos hasta los 6 años, la abusaba sexualmente la persona de este hogar. Cuando supe lo que ocurría, lo demandamos se hizo una investigación en la cual salvamos a muchos pequeñ@s más que cuidaban ahí y que también abusaban. Debido a eso que me pasó, mi hija tiene la genética de ese mal hombre que me abusó y casi me mata heredó sus enfermedades mentales y se le desarrollaron peor con ese abuso. Lo único que ella se enfoca es en dibujar, por eso otro motivo de nuestro negocio además que nos encanta motivar y emprender. 

Tuvimos cirugías y accidentes mi esposo y yo, pero si Dios nos está dando oportunidades de vivir sobre todo a mi que me han pasado cosas trágicas, queremos hacer el bien y poner un poco a mejorar y alegrar este mundo, impactar otras personas.
