Chelsey Keyes is #MadeForKnoxville.

If you’ve been paying attention to the number of people raising backyard chickens, you’ll know that it has skyrocketed in the past few years. Chelsey caught onto this trend and found a way to help homesteaders maximize their sustainability.

Chelsey puts locally grown hemp to use by creating her own chicken feed. She started her business, Hempy Hens, to offer her handcrafted, herbal mix to other mini-farmers and homesteaders who are seeking to improve the health of their chickens. The natural antioxidants in her ingredients help her chickens build a stronger defense against diseases, which results in better products for her family to consume. Besides valuing the ability to produce healthier chickens and eggs, Chelsey has valued the increased freedom she has in creating her own product.

“I realized I could gain the ability to prioritize my time creating new and wonderful things for the world!”

In Their Own Words…

Homesteading and self-sufficiency are important skills for people to have, and it helps our environment. One of the essential components is raising backyard chickens. I’m also passionate about the Hemp Building Industry, and Hempy Hens is a way to utilize the entire Hemp plant which supports American Commodities!

I chose entrepreneurship because… I realized I could gain the ability to prioritize my time creating new and wonderful things for the world!

I have learned that perseverance and networking are essential for success and personal growth!
